Schuchertia

Species

Schuchertia higginsportensis
Occurrence: Fulton
Reference:
This was formerly listed on this site as an asteroid, but that was a mistake, and this page remains to clear things up. Schuchertella higginsportensis was listed in Dalvé, 1948 as a brachiopod. Schuchertella is not known from rocks older than Silurian, so I assumed incorrectly that she meant the asteroid Schuchertia, which is known from Late Ordovician rocks of the eastern United States. Foerste (1914) originally named and figured the brachiopod Strophomena higginsportensis, which he later assigned to Schuchertella higginsportensis. Regardless, this animal is a brachiopod, not an asteroid as I had previously indicated here.
